Hello fellow members,

A few weeks ago, I got invited to a last-minute happy hour session at Cozymel’s down here in San Diego. Somehow, my friend’s co-worker’s friend from outta town just happened to be a sports reporter for Fox 10 News in Mobile, Alabama. As soon as he heard that I play table tennis, he was all about it. He said he was interested in doing a story about me for ESPN.com because people there liked ping pong too, but I thought he was just being nice. As it turns out, he was quite serious!

Important Message to Members!

As we close out another year of great table tennis, competitive tournaments, great coaching programs and our dedication to continue to nuture, promote and grow the sport, we are compelled to share with you an important matter regrarding the daily use of our space within the Balboa Park Athletic Club. As you know we faced a serious financial problem with the city last year. We were successful for the most part in defusing the issue, but unfortunately the economic climate in San Diego– relative to community programs– will again be challenging in the months ahead. The city is again facing economic issues that could seriously impact the welfare and stability of our club, specifically regarding potential cut backs on hours of operation. It will take all of us working together to respond–when and where necessary, to defend our club hours of operation, standards of procedure, and positioning within the BPAC environment and with the City Council. We thank you for your continued support, and with your help we will maintain our standards of operation, including adequate hours of operation and plenty of playing time. NEW: Here is a memorandum from the San Diego Parks & Rec: Read the memo here. SDTTA Board of Directors
